In pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a 5-day boot camp was held to enhance the business models of 20 social enterprises from South Korea and the Philippines, last 13-17 September 2018.
EMPOWERING GLOBAL SDG CAMP: SOCIAL ENTERPRISES Aseries of lectures, mentorships, and trainings were facilitated by distinguished resource persons and all aiming to help develop and concretize each team’s unique business model which is aligned with the SDGs.
Five teams emerged as winners:
(1) Innerbottle, a company that produces and promotes reusable cosmetic bottles; (2) Agriblock Builders, producer of cement made of rice husks;
(3) Amazing 12080, an online application which supports a healthy diet;
and tied in 4th place are
(4) Green Tie Enterprise, producer of pencils made of old newspapers;
(5) Back Keeper, a software that can track body movements to help avoid back pain.
The winners will fly to Korea to compete in the final round and have the opportunity to move into the START UP CAMPUS Oz Incubation Center in Korea, and take home as much as PHP 250,000 (KRW 5,000,000).
Paul Andrei Medina, one of the participants shared, “SDG Camp taught us to have a clear view of our social enterprises, and to make it better. It helped us to determine what the right direction for our social enterprises is.”
More than all the informative lecture sessions, the valuable insights gained, and the intensive mentoring, one of the top finalists from Korea, Soon Woo Kwon, showed appreciation to this cross-cultural event and said, “[The Camp] was a nice chance to get to know better the [Philippines] and get constructive feedback on our business ideas.
