HO CHI MINH, Vietnam – The Asia Society for Social Innovation and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), KONE Corporation, Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG), government officials, and community stakeholders gathered on May 24 for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new vocational training center for the ‘Promote Technical Education Reform of Mechanics to Professional Technicians’ Project of KONE.
With the training center as one of its core milestones, the public-private partnership (PPP) proposes to improve and promote technical training in Vietnam through a dual education model and advance safety and quality of testing and maintaining elevator service. It aims at motivating students to think and focus on the quality of their labor, towards becoming technicians from manual workforce as mechanics.
“Through this project, we aims to enhance the skills and attitudes of future technical workers, attempting a shift towards taking pride in quality or work and skills improvement,” ASSIST Mekong Regional Director Aru David said.
The project will partner with the Ly Tu Trong College, a leading training academy in the city, to establish a KONE-DEG Technicians Training Academy as part of their mechanical department. It will feature a three-story building, equipped with a state-of-the-art elevator facility.
The students will receive trainings at the center for six month – including both theoretical and practical trainings. The curricula will be developed based on the existing agenda and improved according based on collected feedback from potential employers of the students from the private sector.
