ASSIST supported the Inauguration of PCVC’s Recovery and Healing Centre for Burn Survivors

ASSIST partner, The International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care (PCVC) held the inauguration of their new Recovery and Healing Centre for Burn Survivors at the YMCA Hall ‘Reflections’ in Chennai, India on April 19, 2013.

 

PCVC opened their Recovery and Healing Centre for Burn Survivors with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan), Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation, Taiwan and Frauenhilfe Frankfurt. ASSIST was represented by Platosen Samarasam and Marian Thomassen from the Chennai office.

 

There were quite a number of respectable speakers who graced the event namely Sheila Jayaprakash, Board Chair, PCVC, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, I.A.S , Secretary to Government, Health & Family Welfare Department, Prasanna Gettu, CEO, PCVC, Frank Ming-Cheng Lin, Director General, Taiwan Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai, Vita Tu, Director, Sunshine Rehabilitation Center, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan ,I.P.S., ADGP, Civil Supplies, CID, Yashoda, Burn Survivor and Sandhya Sridhar, Board Member, PCVC.Yashoda, a burn survivor, shared her story and how PCVC saved her life. The event was lightened up when the burn survivors performed a skit and song.

 

The Recovery and Healing Centre for Burn Survivors provides support to the survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. They offer services like 24-hour crisis line, a safe house, counseling, legal and medical assistance, emotional support and prevention education.
