On the 10th of November 2018, a team from ASSIST India conducted walk-through audits of five factories in Bangladesh—the first in a series of 17 factory assessments for the project: Promoting Basic Cleaner Production in the Washing/Dyeing/Finishing Sector in Bangladesh.
ASSIST and the local consulting team, the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (B-CAS), assessed the five factories to determine their current usage of energy, water, chemical and other resource.
These assessments will be instrumental in designing integrated approaches that the factories can adopt to reduce consumption and pollution, thus achieving better resource efficiency and cleaner production. Over the next few months, ASSIST and B-CAS will return and reassess the 17 factories to measure progress.
This project is part of the larger joint initiative, the Bangladesh Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT), led by International Finance Corporation (IFC). PaCT is working towards the adoption of best practices in the textile wet processing sector to drive long-term competitiveness and environmental sustainability in Bangladesh.
