The Need
For many rural and low-income families in the Philippines, a stable income isn’t a given — it’s a daily struggle. Food insecurity, limited employment options, and a lack of resources to start small enterprises keep communities from building the futures they’re capable of. Yet the answer is often closer than it seems: mushroom cultivation and egg production — simple, low-cost, and manageable at the household level — hold real potential to change lives. What’s missing isn’t the will. It’s the knowledge, the tools, and the support to get started.
The Intervention
KABUTEhan and EGGsakto integrate livelihood support, technical capacity development, and community-based enterprise building. They provide beneficiary households with starter kits, equipment, and production materials to establish mushroom-growing facilities and egg production systems, strengthen skills through hands-on training in cultivation techniques, poultry management, food safety, and basic business practices, and form community livelihood groups to deepen collective production and market access — with ongoing mentorship ensuring that what is built today continues to grow and sustain itself long after.
