The Need
For smallholder farmers in Central Luzon, water is everything — and access to it is never guaranteed. Inconsistent irrigation drives unpredictable yields, limits what farmers can grow, and keeps communities locked in cycles of agricultural instability. At the same time, the shift toward sustainable, low-cost farming technologies remains out of reach for many without the right partnerships and training to make adoption possible. Without targeted intervention, one of the Philippines’ most abundant resources — the sun — remains untapped by the farmers who need it most.
The Intervention
SOLution integrates solar irrigation technology, farmer and technician capacity development, and multi-stakeholder partnership. It equips smallholder farmers and technicians with hands-on training in Grundfos solar-powered irrigation systems and best practices in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, DEG, and Grundfos, develops tailored training materials for both farmers and technicians to support effective adoption, and establishes partnerships across government, NGOs, LGUs, and the private sector — with expert support throughout implementation ensuring every system installed is built to last.
