The Need

Despite ongoing efforts to achieve 100% electrification by 2030, over a million Filipino households still live with limited or no access to electricity. In rural and disaster-prone areas, the absence of a stable power supply compounds critical vulnerabilities — disrupting access to potable water, healthcare, and quality education precisely when communities need them most. Evacuation centers and off-grid communities across the Philippines remain especially exposed, with the infrastructure meant to protect people during disasters often unprepared to function when the lights go out.

The Intervention

Sinag Pag-asa integrates sustainable energy access, community resilience infrastructure, and capacity building. It installs solar and LED floodlights in evacuation centers, health centers, schools, and other public facilities across disaster-prone areas — providing reliable, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly lighting where it is needed most. Solar systems are monitored through follow-up inspections to ensure continued functionality and address any issues that arise, and symbolic handover ceremonies are conducted across five disaster-prone provinces — equipping communities with solar flood lights and the knowledge to use them for disaster risk reduction and management.
