Switch to High Efficiency Motors (HEMs), a project funded by the EU SWITCH-Asia Programme, was launched on April 3 at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

This three-year project aims to help the private sector save on operating costs by increasing the deployment of more efficient motors and drive systems in several Philippine energy-intensive industries, with sugar millers as the pilot industry.

Present during the Launching Ceremony were Mr. Alex Cabugao, Integrated Institute of Electrical Engineers(IIEE) National President who gave the Welcome Remarks; Mr. Matthieu Penot, Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and Ms. Loreta Ayson, CESO I, Department of Energy Undersecretary who both served as Keynote Speakers. The project was presented by Mr. Marvin Ryan Bathan, Program Manager and Mr. Raymond Marquez, Project Director. Other speakers present were Mr. Francisco Varua, President Philippine Millers Association and Ms. Jo Ann Eala, Bank of the Philippine Islands.

The grant is administered by the IIEE, along with ASSIST and several other partners. ASSIST has been a notable partner in past EU SWITCH Asia projects in the Philippines such as the “Green Philippine Islands of Sustainability”, and the “Zero Carbon Resorts”.
