The Need

In vulnerable farming communities, children and youth face a precarious reality where economic pressure on families can quickly erode the boundaries between childhood and labor. Limited community awareness of children’s rights, combined with insufficient capacity among parents, educators, and local leaders to prevent and respond to child labor, leaves many children exposed to conditions that threaten their education, well-being, and long-term development. Without deliberate and integrated intervention, child labor remains a quiet but persistent barrier — one that communities have the potential to overcome, but not without the right knowledge, tools, and systems in place to protect their children.

The Intervention

ANNAKKO II built on the gains of its first year by deepening its integrated approach to child protection, youth development, and family resilience. It engaged children and youth through creative platforms — a poster making contest, mobile photography contest, talent show, and Larong Pinoy Sportsfest — that gave them space to express themselves and assert their rights, strengthened community capacity through child labor protection workshops, awareness training of trainers, and a community leadership camp, and expanded reach through a public poster exhibit and project relaunch forum — turning individual participants into community-wide advocates for child protection.
