NextGen Workforce
Equipping Filipino Students and Educators with Digital, Green, and Workforce-Ready Skills
The Need
Across the Philippines, there remains a growing gap between education and employment, where many students and aspiring young professionals are not fully equipped with the skills required in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven, and sustainability-focused workforce. As industries’ demand for competencies across digital tools, green practices, and emerging technologies continues to grow, relevant training, mentorship, and career guidance fails to keep up. At the same time, educators and trainers often lack the updated tools and capacity to fully prepare learners for these demands. Without strengthened effort among government agencies and institutions, many young Filipinos risk entering the workforce underprepared, limiting their employability and their potential to contribute to a future-ready and sustainable economy.
The Intervention
NextGen Workforce, implemented by ASSIST in partnership with EY GDS Philippines, responds to this challenge through a multi-faceted and collaborative approach to workforce development. The program aims to equip students, educators, and professionals with critical competencies in digital literacy, green skills, and workforce readiness through mentoring sessions, training of trainers, and capacity-building initiatives. It also aims to leverage employee engagement, while empowering educators with tools and modules to cascade the acquired knowledge and share it within their institutions. The project also strengthens partnerships with key stakeholders such as DepEd and TESDA, expanding its reach to regions such as NCR, CALABARZON, and Region VII. Additionally, it integrates communication campaigns and forums to share best practices. Through this, we are able to combine technical training, mentorship, and ecosystem-building, the program creates a scalable and sustainable model for preparing a future-ready Filipino workforce.
