ASSIST India organizes its first School Garden Initiative

December 10, 2014

Having a garden before was like having all the game consoles in one place. Children let their imagination run wild and came up with all sorts of activities! Sky’s the limit as they say it. While in a generation where children can use an iPad better than their parents, fun is now a screen touch away. The only time a child interacts with a plant nowadays is when they’re playing Plants VS Zombies.

1, 2, 3, Grow promotes installing gardens where children can have the chance to learn an important life skill, one that is overlooked in standard school curricula. Gardening activities is a great way to teach environmental awareness by exploring the workings of nature. After all, firsthand experience is the best experience one can have.

Last November 7, ASSIST organized its first 1, 2, 3, Grow workshop in association with Spaces: Gardening Redefined. Student’s from AMM Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kotturpuram had a chance to learn about the importance of plants and best of all experience planting first hand.
