The Need
On the shores of Bantayan Island, water is both everywhere and out of reach. Surrounded by sea, the coastal communities of Maricaban, Santa Fe, and Sulangan face a quiet but persistent crisis: unreliable access to clean, safe water — especially during the dry season when it matters most. Without sustainable water sources and strong WASH practices, families face heightened risks of waterborne disease, poor sanitation, and a cycle of health vulnerability that deepens with every passing dry month.
The Intervention
Ulan Alang sa Bantayan integrates water infrastructure, community health education, and corporate volunteerism. It constructs two rainwater catchment systems in partner communities to provide families with a reliable source of clean water that persists through the dry season, strengthens hygiene and sanitation practices through WASH refresher trainings to keep communities healthy long after the infrastructure is in place, and engages corporate volunteers on the ground — complemented by Noche Buena gift packs that bring warmth and connection to the families at the heart of it all.
