Noveleta Coastal Community Rehabilitation Program

The Need

The coastal communities of Noveleta, Cavite are facing a quiet but accelerating crisis. Mangrove loss, water pollution, and poor waste management have left shorelines vulnerable to erosion, flooding, and declining marine biodiversity — threatening both the ecosystems and the livelihoods that depend on them. Without targeted restoration efforts and stronger environmental awareness, coastal degradation will continue to outpace the community’s capacity to respond and recover.

The Intervention

The Program integrates ecosystem restoration, water quality improvement, and community-based environmental education. It rehabilitates coastal ecosystems through large-scale mangrove planting and the establishment of a nursery, improves water quality and shoreline resilience through bokashi balls, coastal cleanups, rainwater catchment systems, and bamboo wave barriers, and builds local capacity through training on mangrove management, eco-tourism, and climate resilience at the Mangrove Conservation Learning Center — with Community Mangrove Stewardship Groups and Wells Fargo corporate volunteers ensuring sustained, multi-stakeholder engagement long after the project ends.
