PUMA-ASSIST Joint Project Culminates in Awards Ceremony

CONSERV (Conservation of Environmental Resources in Vietnam) project was wrapped up during the Awarding Ceremony and Best Practice Forum on January 25, 2013, at Grand Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

CONSERV is a Public Private Partnership capacity building project initiated by PUMA for its suppliers in Vietnam. The 18-month long project was co-financed by DEG and managed in cooperation with ASSIST. CONSERV closed in the awarding ceremony last January, whereas awards were distributed to the top performing companies. The awarded winners are: (1) Most Active/Best in Environment Management – Jia Hsin (Footwear), (2) Best in Energy Savings – Alliance One (Apparel), (3) Best in Water Savings – Prime Asia (Footwear), (4) Best in Solid Waste Management – Sao Viet (Footwear), and (5) Most Innovative RECP Project – TMI (Apparel). In addition to this, 15 winners of CONSERV poster competition were announced and rewarded with five first prizes and ten consolation prizes.

This project applied the concept and methodology of UNIDO’s Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production to enhance the capability of suppliers to efficiently use such resources as energy, water and materials of production, as well as to address environment protection related issues.  The project aimed to equip PUMA suppliers with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve PUMA’s 25% sustainability targets by 2015, as well as to help them improve their production efficiency. While the full impact of the project can only be evaluated over longer time, the first signs of improvement have already been witnessed and documented.
