ASSIST, AsianNGO join panel for nat’l conference on new CSR approaches

HO CHI MINH, Vietnam – To highlight different innovative corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the country, Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) and its development media platform, AsianNGO, joined the LIN Center for Community Development, Ho Chi Minh City Association for Women Executives & Entrepreneurs (HAWEE), and European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham)-Vietnam for the “How Doing Good is Good for Business” Conference in the city.

“We believe that good business models are those that consider the achievement of shared values for both the business and the communities it engages with,” ASSIST Director for the Mekong Region Aru David said during the event that was held on May 19 at the Caravelle Hotel.

The event was designed to highlight various approaches in CSR and creating shared values, to discuss the difference between charity and development initiatives, and to share strategies for corporate partnerships with not-for-profit organizations.

Talking about “Business and Social Benefits of Poverty Alleviation”, David was one of the panelists in the event, where he used as an example ASSIST’s project that aims to deliver sustainable vision correction services to underprivileged communities. The project intends to bring about a shift in the vision care-seeking behavior of people by enhancing accessibility to eye care services and equipment, which in turn increases the demand for these products, as pushed by intensive marketing and technical inputs.

The conference was attended by Chief Executive Officers (CEO), Senior Leaders, Department Managers, employees, and practitioners representing businesses of varying scales. They got to share practical ways to “drive positive social, economic, and/or environmental impacts” and “deliver business growth, profitability, and competitive advantage” at the same time.
